PHILADELPHIA- A man opened fire on a group of adolescents sitting on a stoop of a northern Philadelphia home, killing a 16 -year-old and wounding a 12 -year-old, less than 24 hours after mourners gathered for the funeral of another 16 -year-old shooting victim, police said.
The suspect, described as in his early 20 s, approached the group and opened fire shortly after midnight Saturday, then fled, they added.
Responding policemen found the 16 -year-old youth face down on the street with gunshot meanders to the head and body, police said. He was pronounced dead.
A 12 -year-old approached them and showed them a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He was last listed in stable condition.
Police have no motive for the shooting and no apprehends were immediately stimulated; homicide detectives are investigating.
On Oct. 24, gunfire in southern Philadelphia attributed by police to a conflict between two groups of teenagers killed two 16 -year-olds, Caleer Miller and Salvatore DiNubile. Another 16 -year-old youth is facing charges in that case. Police are also investigating shots fired at the home of the suspect a few days after the slayings.
On Saturday morning, hours before the most recent shooting, hundreds attended a service at Love Kingdom Fellowship Church celebrating the life of Miller, remembering his smile and his love of friends, family and the Philadelphia 76 ers basketball team.
“He was an amazing person. There was nobody like him who could make your day. When he wasn’t at school, the working day was boring, ” 17 -year-old Paris Johnson told The Philadelphia Inquirer after the service.
